Sorry I'm so late on all this, but I just got back and saw the shows and have a lot to complain about...
I think that Deanna told Jesse that he'd better go and ask her Daddy for permission. It seemed so contrived.
Also, she made him cut his hair. She wants him on HER terms. It won't last. He'll come to resent being crafted in the image she will take him.
