Ruby's spay, bloodwork, monitoring and retained teeth (10 of them) was $197, two years ago. Given your location and that everything has the tendency to cost more there, I would think the price you quoted is about average. I would expect it to be on the lower side of the quote you were given.
Also, as long as Gizmo is healthy (pre-op bloodwork should rule out most concerns) I wouldn't worry too much about the procedure. It is successfully done on thousands of pets each day.
