If you have some of the red paint left, I'd do a test board first. I'm just a little worried that it might turn out "muddy" looking. I tried doing an antique glaze over an off white and it just looked dirty. A lot of the glazes are really pigmented, very little of the color underneath seems to show through. Also, depending on what type of paint the red was, you don't want to have it pull the paint off the wall when you wipe off some.
