I'm not one that believes that dogs have human feelings such a getting revenge, but I think it's important for us to think like a dog. Dogs have a pack mentality, and it important to be a part of the pack and know their place in the pack. Because you have been gone a lot lately this may make him question his place, and his behavior is more a result of trying to establish his territorial authority. Remember, when you are gone, it's his house. Always establish yourself as the alpha, one easy way to help do this is always demanding that the dog "sit" before feeding. If possible, try to spend a little more time with him walking, playing, or training, and I think he will once again feel like a valued member of the pack. Some people who have to leave their dog for long periods have found that getting another pet helps with the dog's loneliness. |
