What a great post! I too had the temptation to "replicate" I thought OH MY GOSH 2,3,4+ little Diggy's how fun!! SO i then contacted a reputable breeder on here (thanks btw) and did all the testing, multiple vet visits, and mucho $$ and I got the thumbs up to breed Diggy! YAY I was on my way to little Diggys!
THEN I started asking how the actual breeding takes place and you may have to help them and how its painful and all that fun stuff i was like whoa....ummmm Now I am scared I dont want to hurt lil Diggy he is my baby!! THEN I start really reading up, contacting the other end....the rescues, shelters etc.. How heart breaking thousands of babies put to sleep every year! Like 16,000+ here in Detoit...I seen the pics of them in cages, sad scared and alone. They were going to die. And it hit me like a ton of BRICKS what am I thinking??? I have my lil Diggy do I really want more?? As precious as he is, my answer is NO. His sister Bella definatley didnt want another Diggy either. I was sad. My hopes were gone and I realized I am in NO way a breeder. A breeder is a special person with many talents. I have 2 teenaged kids both very involved in sports. Where will I find the time??? another reality check. I can't find time you have to already HAVE it. OKay the Money, yes I have the money and parents that would help at anytime too....but is this really something I should NEED help on? No you should be on your own...financially set, and no worries. So all in all it was looking more like I am in no way a breeder. I'm not that special person (well im special alright but not in a breeding kinda way
) I made and appointment to have Diggy neutered immediately and its the BEST decision I have made in this whole process.....I found another hobby I LOVE and makes me VERY happy. Rescues. I love them, im not in a position to run one but I sure will help however I can. So to those of you that are young and dumb like me PLEASE look at all ends of breeding before you jump in. Look at as many recuse sites as you can, and help them. If you cant help a rescue....what makes you think you can help a dog in labor???? Hats off to the responsible breeders out there. There will always be a demand for pure bred yorkie babies...that's not going to change but please leave it to those "special" people. I am not anti breeder in anyway infact I support MANY! I do however PRAY that those that do breed....DO IT 110% RIGHT. I hope I didnt offend anyone, but if I can change one persons mind about breeding foolishly then it was worth every second I sit here and type it. And I think the "right" breeders out there would agree with everything I say.
And to the OP what a GREAT thread you have started. I sure hope it doesnt turn hateful like so many before...Its nioce to see so many sharing in the same thoguhts in a NON hateful manner about such a controversial subject!
