We have the same thing going on with Gabby right now. I was going to get her spayed but I'm waiting until she fills out a little more. She is exactly like you describe, but not moody. Our neutered 4 yr old Yorkie has been following her around.
This is actually the first day he hasn't tried to "win her over". I haven't put anything on her though- she's not really bleeding much- just wipe with a tissue once or twice a day. Sorry about your bad luck with the job at this time. I hope things look up soon.
