The hair in the ear can cause an ear infection if it is not plucked out. The ear wax can accumulate more quickly around the hair because it is harder to keep clean than when it is hairless. If it is not kept clean it can cause an infection and smell. It seems each dog has a different rate on how quickly they form the wax, and how much hair they grow in the ear. I use tweezers and then clean with an ear cleaner and a pad and qtip(but not very far in). They smell so much better too.
