Tiggerwit,

Great post!!!

Alexandria is a great place! We were just there a couple of weeks ago and the place is crawling with pet friendly things to do. There are lots of restaurants with outdoor dining that allow dogs, tons of stores that allow dogs, many even set drinking water out. The is a walking/riding/biking path that runs the whole way to Mt. Vernon.

Even Mt. Vernon is pet friendly. (You just can't take them in the mansion. However, I'm sure if the committee arranged a visit to Mt. Vernon we could work out a system to let small groups do the mansion while others watched their furkids) It's a huge place. DH and I have easily spent the day there, both with and without dogs.

There is a pet friendly cruise of the Potomac and you can visit many of the outdoor attractions in Washington (the monuments, memorials, etc.) with furbutts in tow. Usually, in late June the high humidity of July and August hasn't settled in yet (although every summer differs a bit)

Fenced dog parks abound and if we all brought ex-pens like at this years meetup I'm sure we'd be able to find places to set up.

I had decided to go this year if it ended up in Alexandria, Savannah or San Diego (SD would have to have been our annual vacation, but we've been wanting to go there anyway). But, I honestly, don't think we can go wrong with Alexandria.
