Studies have shown that breeds with long noses more difficulty with cigarette smoke than those with shorter noses. I don't think covering the nose would help much; dogs tend to die before the effects of second hand smoke are a problem, as this usually takes years of intense exposure. Unless your clothing is made of an activated charcoal, I think it would be best to ask guests to smoke outside or remove the dog from the area.
