we made some steps out of ply wood and i covered it with batting and stapled on a sheet to cover it. i had bought a dark purple colored single sheet at one time for .25 and only bought it because it was so cheap. i knew one day i would have a use for it. they were really easy to make and by covering them there was no places they could fall thru. it works great.
