Have you tried the small, alligator flat clips like the one that Zander is wearing? When I took him to the groomers I said, and wrote, do not cut or shave in between his eyes/nose, ummm, they did exactly that! So now I am having to hold it together with the clip, it stays in place very well and I don't have to worry about skin irritation or geled hair going in his eyes. Just a thought.
