It wasn't that bad. It was more tender the lower he went but it's only momentary. They stop every so often to wipe so....... My daughters had more design and color and she said it hurt but she didn't cry or anything like that. Just a couple quick gasps. But again about the time it would really start to hurt he'd stop to wipe. I think a lot of it will depend on what you get and what your pain tolerance is.
