The cone really depends on youre specific pup. Some will try to lick their stitches... others wont. I had my baby in a onsie for the first 2 nights. and i stayed with her the first 2 days. She was really drowsy at first and just layed for about 16-20 hours. By the next morning she was back to racing around the house. I did my best to calm her down but it was pretty useless. I figured that meant she was feeling better and a good sign.
