I don't think the alcohol is negated by rubbing it in his paws, however, its the difference between drinking some vodka or using a body cream with alcohol in its ingredients (which a lot have!)

I would check with your vet. As I said, my 10 pound Cavalier loves the stuff and my Yorkie mix doesn't - so I follow their lead and give it to them based on their individual tastes.
