Sometimes tops are made really thin because they are designed to be layered. Also like ericjam suggested, a cami might be the ticket. I have a Body by Victoria cami that is nude and doesn't require a bra. I can wear it under anything and it just disappears. Then when looking for an inexpensive option for my daughter I found that Walmart has the very exact knockoff of the Victoria's Secret cami. I was surprised that the quality was pretty decent too. I do know what you mean though. I wear a lot of white tees and I don't want to layer and I don't want to need a cami and it is getting harder and harder to find non sheer white tees. I used to be able to just pick them up without trying them on but now I have to be more careful. I don't know if you are even looking for tees but I really like J Crew perfect fit.
