This may sound extremely elementary, but have you checked to make sure that the clippers aren't getting hot?
We used to bathe and groom our shih-tzu. After a very difficult grooming experience, we noticed that his behavior continued when we'd groom him. Our clippers, which were about a year old, were getting too hot and were actually hurting him. Once we got new clippers, he became a model citizen again.
