IMO, you get what you pay for. I personally don't expect any machine to last much past the warranty. With that said, I believe the Bissell 2x has great cleaning power, easy to use accessories and great suction. It even has heated air that helps to dry the carpet. If I were going to go for something any better than this one, it would be the $800 + Rug Doctor. There is just nothing in between that I have found.
