My New Mackensie Happy 4th weekend to all!
We have had Mackensie since Thursday evening & she has been a complete joy! She is 8 weeks old today. I had so many reservations about adopting her since I work, it was on my mine all the time.
The first night I put her in her crate aside of ourbed & she cried for 2 minutes & fell asleep. Woke up at 1:50, took her to the house training pad downstairs & she piddled, went back to bed, woke up at 5:10, repeated the same & got up at 7:45. Last night went to bed after neighbors were done putting of fireworks, she didn't make a sound & sleep till 6:45 this morning & didn't have an accident in crate! Please tell ime if this is really good. We will keep her in the kitchen till she is housebroken. I leave the crate door open while she is in the kitchen and she will go in there on her own just to nap. Mackensie came from a friends home with 6 other assorted dogs, mother & father on site, & 3 other yorkie puppies. There was lot's of activity & very little discipline, my husband is 60 & I am 58 so I think our home is much more quiet and we are sticking to our rules although we have an eight year old grandson.
Another question I have is I am home from work till Wednesday. I have a puppy proof kitchen. Should I crate her with a neighbor coming in at noon time to take her out or should I leave crate door open with a house training pad & let her roam in the kitchen. I would like to train her to go on house training pad when I am at work then take her out to yard when we are home. So far she is not really taking to pads unless I put her on it but she will go off pation onto grass to piddle. I know I only have her 2 days but what do you think! I want to do this right!
Your thoughts on my questions would really be appreciated! |
