As a breeder, I have met many folks on line, through this forum and Yahoo groups. I ask lots of questions, check references, google everyone, reverse directory addresses and phone numbers. I call vets, the humane society, the rescues, animal controls in your home town. I send friends to do home visits. This needs to go both ways. A good breeder will have you to their home, will spend hours with you on the phone, emails, and faxes.

Paypal has protection for both buyers and sellers. Another protection is posting the breeders name and kennel and asking if anyone has had any experience with the breeder. Ask for pictures with the newspaper date visible is one way to avoid a scam. The best would be to meet the seller at the airport.
