Sometimes this happens if the crate is too big. For crate training to be effective, the crate has to feel like a bed, not an apartment. Some people block part of the crate off with boxes, but you must remember he won't be able to hold it all night, and you have to get up if he cries and put him on a pee pad. At first it was twice a night with Joey. I don't like the idea of withholding food or water this young either, and Joey's breeder told us food and water should be available at all times until he was 8 months old.
