I don't want to scare you all, but this is what I know.

I work for an oil and gas distribution company. By looking at the information center in my office, I can tell you the price of gas anywhere in the US, and what changes are going to happen each day.

Over the past 3 days, gas for the distributors has risen $.85/ gallon. Because the people who have gas in their tanks did not pay this price, the actual cost of gas is not reflected at the pumps yet. Because of these increases alone, gas is expected to be at around $3.15/gallon in Oklahoma, one of the cheapest places. In California, it's going to be around $3.50. This is just the first in the raises. Prices are expected to climb to end up around $4.00-$4.50/gallon and stay that way for a while. It's unfortuante that the release of gas from reserves won't help much, because a lot of the refineries are shut down, and you can't have gas without them. I know that gas went up $.25 in Oklahoma today effective at 6:00 pm, but I'm not sure about everywhere else...it's usually comparable.
