Nico is 11 months old. When I adopted him at 6months he had no training at all, he was gated in a dining area and left to chew the moldings and the gate. These people had no time for him, they found out that they were not dog people but still waited six months. I cant get doggy steps because he does not go in the house, we are in housebreaking 101 and he has been doing pretty good. Does not know how to tell me he has to go out but I just take him out when I think he needs to go and its working. I limit his water intake and it works. - So basically when I got him at 6 months he had the mentality of a one month old. He was never walked on a leash - I was the first person to take him on a leash. He is doing really well. So I guess its back to sleeping in his crate at night.
