I think puppy coat has a lot to do with it. It all depends on what your babys' coat is going to end up to be. AprilLove had ratty, matty puppy coat, now it is very soft and smooth, I think what they call modified coat, but I'm not an expert and not sure what true silk is. Her coat never never matts. Heres a pic of her puppy coat (6 months) and her last week (2 1/2 years old)


eta: If you post this question in the showing section, you might get some good answers from people who show and really know a lot about coats :-)
