Okay, here's what I'd suggest since you seem open to it. I'd suggest you buy some
Natures Variety Freeze Dried Raw Venison Medallions - and leave them dry. I don't know where you are in Indiana or I would've tried the store locator for you - but they do have a store locator on their site. I think you should also buy some digestive enzymes, like ProZyme, and a probiotic of some kind (probiotics are like the live cultures found in yogurt) - probios are great for healing the digestive tract. Did he ever have an odd infection when he was a puppy or anything, btw?
Anyway, take about a 1/4 medallion and crumble over his kibble - feed that for about 5 days and see how he does. Give the Prozyme each meal. Usually you give a half capsule of the probio once a day. If all is well, you could increase to 1/2 medallion for 5 days, then 1 medallion (decreasing some kibble each time) until you reach giving medallions only. There is a feeding guide on the NV website so you can see how many medallions you should be feeding based on his weight/activity. After a month or two, you'll want to try the Raw Frozen Venison Medallions (not freeze dried), which you'd let defrost and then give (without cooking). That would be the ultimate goal.
That's what my guys eat and many others feed here as well. My Marcel (my avatar) had 4 mths of mushy/mucousy/jelly/bloody poo - and no one could fix it. I spent hundreds at the vet, we tried meds, everything! Finally, an animal nutritionist helped me - I cooked for him for about a month (he was firm after 1.5 days), then we went on NV - and he's been healthy since.
