if it's over the counter it's 3 months or sooner if your makeup looks like it clumps
if it's a higher end makeup (like minerals) it doesnt' go bad
I didn't even think about the lotion aspect because when I get my primer from smashbox they always tell me to write the date I open it and start using it so it could have been that too.
