Not to be rude, but perhaps people aren't "all talk" but truly had difficulty making it work out. I can only speak for myself. With gas prices up to $4.00/gallon here, and other expenses, etc....dh and I made a choice not to go
anywhere on vacation this year. First time in 15 years. In addition, the trip to KC was too far to drive for a two day meet-up. For me it would have been two days on the road, two days in KC then two days on the road. 6 Days gone for two days vacation??? Maybe 20 years ago, now that's just too much. That does not mean that when we luck out and the event is closer (say, within 10-12 hour drive one way) we won't be there. Was I excited when the idea first came up? Absolutely!!! Would I have loved to be there. Definitely!
Also, the knowledge that the planners will hit the East coast eventually made it easier to decide to wait until it was more affordable. I thought that was the reason for changing the venue? To make it possible for different members to have a chance to attend at least once every three years.
Please don't look down on those who for whatever reason couldn't make it this year.
