I also had a 4.5 hour drive when I got lexi. My mom drove me down there that way I could hold her on the way back. They have less chance of getting sick if they are close to you because you are countering most of the bumps and such. I brought two dry towels (for any accidents) and I put one washcloth in a plastic bag with water (in case she got sick). I also had her water bowl and a bottle of water in case I thought she was getting thirsty.

she was scared because she didnt know me yet, so she sat very still and slept most of the way home. we made two potty stops, but she never went potty. she also never got sick or whined. I have heard that the backseat can make them more prone to car sickness though.
