Obviously, the price was NOT better for that poor sick puppy, if the vet bill was $1,000. A good breeder would not sell a sick puppy in the first place, and genetic testing would have been done on the parents to prevent breeding and passing on any bad traits. Breeders pay a lot of money for "breeding quality" dogs that are good examples of the breed. Most breeders will tell you that there isn't much, if any, profit in selling their puppies. They also give a health guarantee.
