A copy of the permit should have been posted on the job site. Each state's laws are a little different, so you need to check with yours. Did you go through a licensed contractor? Are these guys listed in your phone book's yellow pages? Simetimes you can get some information there. You can also check with the BBB in your area to see if there have been any other complaints on these people. Did they tell you that they would get the building permit? Call your county building and ask them if one was filed. Tell them what is going on. If a permit wasn't filed.. at least they will know that you were told they were to get one. And you can get it.. to keep yourself out of trouble.
