I know exactly how you feel. I had a wolf hybrid named Toy that I had to have put to sleep a little over a year ago. She was a month shy of 15 years and her quality of life had diminished to the point where there was no other decision to be made. I actually put it off for months because here and there she would have a good day. It got to the point, however, that I could see in her eyes that she was suffering. She had become incontinent, could hardly walk anymore and was in obvious pain. To have let her linger like that was more than I could bear. I made the decision and had it done while my wife was at work. I still miss her terribly; she was a wonderful dog (I'm tearing up as I write this). My thoughts are with your family at this time and a special prayer for Sid.
