I have dealt with this same thing with my older yorkie Gizmo for the last 5-6 years. I work in a vets office and we have done all kinds of tests and nothing is wrong except he just drinks too fast, coughs, and sometimes vomits up his water. I ordered a bowl from G. W. Little (here is the link
Better Dog Bowl - GW Little) and is sure has helped him. I have also heard to elevate their water bowl so they don't have to lean over and I think I will try that.
