I have been there, too. It is really a beautiful place. Not very expensive. Trolleys that you can use for transortation thru the town (and that go to Pigeon Forge, TN... a place with LOTS of shopping outlets). There are many campgrounds, outdoor park areas, and the scenery with the mountains is breath-taking. We enjoyed the cold streams that were everywhere.... it was fun wading in them!!! I don't know how dog friendly they are, but it wouldn't be hard to do some "surfing" and find out.
