Many shelters are spaying/neutering as early as 6 weeks now. It can be done safely and so far there is no evidence of any negative effects from altered early. Not defending the pet store because I HATE petstores that sell puppies but I don't necessarily believe they are in the wrong for neutering that early. I'd rather wait until closer to 12 weeks, but I understand why shelters have to do it earlier

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
