I'm so sorry to hear that. But what exactly is 'spyware on your computer'? Is that some type of virus? And if you're on an Internet team, wouldn't that be an expected occupational hazzard? If they can get into the major credit card companies and the Pentagon, what chance do you stand? Certainly you should have some recourse...
I hope you got appropriate severance, and if not, I would look into it. I know it's hard to think of it now while your still in shock, but it sounds to me like a lame excuse.
It seems like everyone that works at my internationally known company that gets 'let go' ends up suing the company, winning huge settlements, and living happily-ever-after. I've often thought that I would like to be fired so I could take some time off, maybe take an extended vacation in Europe or go back to school for my masters. Heck, it's worked for everybody else!
Sorry, I've lived in Jersey too long haven't I! It just doesn't sound right.
