I have the plastic crate that have used with both my puppies, mostly for home training. I used the metal style when I had a German Shepherd, but I didnt think it was suited for the little guys. It just seemed so open and scary. I know that sounds odd, but my preference is based on a "how would I feel. " The plastic ones seem more protective and safe and even a little more comfortable than the wire.

Totally off from the two, but just to give you a thought for the future. I also have a soft style, almost like a plastic one just softer like a duffel bag. I use that for travels. The newest puppy goes into it on his own and sleeps in it when I have it out. They seem to feel less constrained and can also see around them through the mesh. It is hard to see in, but they can see out. It is soft all around so they even look more comfy.

But, in my opinion I think the answer is what you feel the best with. It is all based on preference and I dont think that you can go wrong.
