I believe puppies should be free-fed if you do kibble, but you have to be certain that your puppy is eating every few hours so that he/she does not have a hypoglycemic episode.
Wylie's mom gave great advice about leaving kibble out all day and possibly giving a little canned in the morning and a little canned at night. Canned food is less processed and higher in moisture, so it's better than dry in my opinion.
