I bought a front carrier from PetSmart for $12.99 on sale. I didn't like it - too many buckles and straps to fidle with. My kids did not like it so it's stuffed in the closet somewhere.
I think it is a fabulous idea for you to make your own. In fact, once you perfect your design, I bet YTers will be begging for you to make them one
