A bile acid test is not necessary but it is a good thing to do.
Make sure that your pup is at least 6 months old, is on a moderate protein diet (not high), hasn't taken any meds in about 2 weeks and hasn't been sick recently if you want to get one done. These things could possibly skew the results.
Not all dogs will have symptoms, especially if it is MVD>
