Wow~ I can't even imagine anyone that is a friend or relative of mine saying something negative about my pets (at least to my face or within earshot). And that includes even my dh's friends who aren't so animal crazy as I am. I used to take one of my parrots everywhere and I am sure they thought it was a little eccentric, but they never said a word. Maybe that's why nobody says anything about the dogs, ROFL.....they're just thankful it's something more 'Normal"

On the other hand, I think it's ignorant for people to make fun of you or what you do for your pets. Just tell them that if they ever end up unable to take care of themselves, they'd better hope that someone as caring as you is around to take care of THEM
