Since this isn't technically about breeding... I would encourage anyone who thinks it's a good idea to place pups at 8 weeks to take a look in some of the other sections of YT first. There have been a seemingly high number of people lately posting with emergencies that their pups won't eat, scared, not acting as pups should in short. And the common link between all of them is that they got the pup at a very young age---8 weeks and even younger. Run the theory of letting them go at 8 weeks by those owners and see if they agree with you.
This is a general rule of thumb for Yorkies--if you have someone suggesting otherwise to you, I would recommend you look for advice elsewhere. It's one of those instances where I follow the lead of veteran, respected breeders and you'll be hard pressed to find any who place their pups so early. (Did I mention it is a YTCA guideline as well.)
IMO, this is an aspect where you err on the side of caution. Sure, things *may* end up with a happy ending, but why chance it? |
