walking advice needed Hey everyone...
Jaya is almost 1, and is 3 lbs
Jenna is 9 months old and 5 lbs
What would be a good length of time for their walks per day?
Before the girls got fixed, we used to go on two half hour walks a day - both girls did wonderfully - they were focused and kept up with me at a very brisk pace. The hot days, the girls would be exhausted by the end of the half hour. But the non-hot days, they could have used more time.
Then when they got fixed, I did not take them out for about two and half weeks.
Since then however, I have found that I have had to retrain Jenna how to walk all over again. Its been a few weeks, and she just drags her butt - and she is the one who needs the excercise more! She has gotten better, but she is having issues keeping up.
I have experimented with half hour - and I have found its not nearly enough for Jaya who keeps up with me. Jenna on the other hand - I really have to push - she`s not tired because she`s got loads of energy when we get home, but she just doesnt want to. I think its a will thing.
So then, I moved to one hour, and Jaya, though she pants, is very capable of handling that. With Jenna, I just can`t tell. Is she just too young still?
And then I thought --- well is 1 hour even enough time???? Should I be taking them for two one hour sessions per day??? I am worried about Jenna because the vet said she`s overweight for her body frame and structure. The days that I work the girls stay in their xpen for about 3-4 hours and then the rest of the time they run loose.
I`m just getting confused because my husband says a half hour once or twice is good enough, and my fatherinlaw says an hour twice a day.
And all I want is to make sure the girls are getting enough excercise. I may just experiment with two one hour sessions today if I get all of my papers marked on time.
