It won't help you this time, but it's a good thing to have in your doggie first aid kit.

AWESOME tip! A good thing to remember about eye infections is that if the eye has green/yellow discharge, the discharge smells a bit, and has red conjuctiva - but the dog is keeping it's eyes open (in other words, eyes don't look super irritated), it's likely something like conjuctivitis or a mild infection. But, if the dog is trying to keep one or both eyes closed or partly closed - this would indicate *pain* and could be a scratched cornea or something lodged in the eye - in which case you'd want to get to the vet ASAP, as it needs immediate attention.

But, once you're familiar w/ conjuctivitis - having an ointment on hand would be really great.
