Their Old English (sorry, not Yorkie) was expecting ...she had 3 healthy pups but then lost all the others (there were quite a few due) ...one pup was breech presentation and they were inexperienced....

Was this an English Bulldog? If she is, it is basically routein to have a c-section and hand raise the puppies. Most Bulldogs do not have strong motherly instincts and have a very high pain/sensitiviy threshold. That is why the pups are hand raised(kept separate from the mom and only put on her to nurse and always supervised). They commonly lay on the pups and sufocate them(not on purpose). They almost all have delivery problems due to several reasons. One being the pups have big heads and they will just stop contracting after the first or second pup. This is a very difficult breed of dog to sucessfully raise unless you are there 24/7. Sorry for your loss.
