Joey was the same way as a puppy; I did give him two baths a week for a while. Make sure you use a conditioner and rinse really well. Silky hair tends to look oilier, but Joey "outgrew" this problem and now has a beautiful coat that can easily go a full week between baths. You might try a 5-day week and see how that works, but I wouldn't worry about oiliness, unless it was an adult dog, and then seeing a dermatologist may be in order.
Sometimes I just gave him a head bath.
