Joey was better in about two days, no baths for two weeks. Vet said he didn't need the collar, but we did use some clear deodorant around the area so that he didn't lick. I've read that some people use a baby's onesie to prevent licking, but didn't know about those at the time. Joey had to wear the collar at another time, and he seemed to tolerate it fairly well. I would try not to have any rough housing for at least a week. We have steps for Joey because I don't think it's good at anytime for them to jump off the couch or beds.
