Oh, your poor little baby. And I know exactly how you feel. Gracie broke her tibia and her growth plate slipped when she was 4 months old. She had surgery with the growth plate pinned back in place. Once we stopped the pain pills, it was all I could do to keep her from running all over the place. She was the fastest three legged dog I've ever seen. The pins are still there but she has healed completely with no limping or anything. Every time the vet would change her cast, she would match the color to her outfit. It's amazing how these little creatures adapt. Oh, and because it was her hind leg, she had to hold her cast straight out to the side to go potty. It was quite the sight.
We use a child's playpen to keep her confined for a least the lst month or two except for when we were right there to supervise her to keep her from running and jumping. We took a plastic bag and cut it to the length of her cast, punched several holes around the top and weaved ribbon in and out of the holes. Everytime she went outside she had to wear it to keep the cast dry. I live in Seattle and this was during the winter....so every day was wet!!!
Good luck to you and Tarra, and I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for both of you. I think I took it worse than Gracie did and I'm sure this was horrible for you as well as Tarra. You know us protective Mommies... |
