Oh, I'm so sorry this happened, I'll bet your still in shock. I don't know what I would do, I think perhaps I would go to the vet, and let him document everything, I'm sure the groomer would be more than willing to pay for this, but I would seriously consider suing, but some people say it's hard to get anything back if you can't show damages. For example, he's a stud or a show dog, and looks are important. One person posted that since dog's are considered property you can't get anything back for pain and suffering.

I think I would ask the vet how typical this sort of injury is, is it just an accident or gross negligence?

I don't think you are being too emotional, that's the first rule in grooming, they should always tell you if something goes wrong. It just makes you wonder how long they held him there, waiting for the bleeding to stop.
