I am wondering why some thread topics show up in Bold type and others in regular, (not bold) type?

I first thought it was when I had already read them that they went to regular. Nope. That's not it. Then I thought maybe when I responded to them. Nope. That's not it either.

So...what is it?

Curiosity. Glad I'm not a cat.

I'm sure it is going to be a real DUH moment for me when I receive the answer.
