I agree with the above. Try to make sure that your dog is safe and not going to hit itself on anything; I would hold them or at least, keep my hand on them if they're too big to pick up, just so they're not convulsing and hitting themselves on something (like the floor). And talk to them calmly and try to soothe them.

I would definitely make notes on what was going on just prior to the episode, what it was like, and how long it lasted. And what your dog's demeanor was immediately following; was he weak, or unsteady, confused or disoriented? These are things that you'll forget the details of not long afterward, and if you keep a journal, it will not only help the vet if it's something that is becoming more frequent, but it will help you to know sort of what to expect so that you'll be a little calmer too. I try to keep pretty detailed notes whenever my dogs are ill with anything. It just sort of gives you a timeline of what's going on.

Oh...I also always make sure they have a patent airway~ be careful about putting your fingers in their mouth though; you might get bitten!
