How about a playpen? That's what I did with Abby for the first couple months when we'd leave. I made sure she had a potty pad, water and food. Of course she also had her bed and toys. I felt much safer having her confined to where she couldn't get ahold of an electrical cord, or get something in her mouth that she could choke on.
They really do need to be confined to a smaller, safer area until they are older.
